What a beautiful and perfect day it is! One of my favorite things to do is sit outside, pull out my laptop, and just write. I never really used to be a writer but over the past couple of years, journaling has become a huge part of my life. When you get by yourself with your journal and let your pen take you on a journey, things become clearer, a peace settles in, and you hear the still small voice of the Lord saying, “you can do this.” Today, my heart is so full of God’s grace and the abundance of His love. When I take time to just be still and look at where God has me, I’m so grateful. Grateful for every challenge and opportunity; thankful for the tears and the laughter; and overwhelmed with joy that God cares so much about my life to align every detail and prepare me for each obstacle before I face it.
When I wrote about my goals for #clearOctober, one of them was to ‘believe with all my heart the promises God has spoken to me and to rest assured that where God has me right now, is preparing me for even greater things to come.’ I desire with all of my heart to be at this place of complete and total surrender before the Lord trusting him with each step I take. At the beginning of the month when I wrote this down, I had no idea the challenges I would face. When we speak or write down the dreams and desires of our hearts and step out in faith, we reach another level of elevation and are faced with challenges that tempt us and try to distract us from the pathway God has before us. Sometimes you feel you are doing everything you can just to stand. When you take a step of faith and put your whole heart into what you believe, the attacks of the enemy get heavier and sometimes you just want to give up. Even when you think you aren’t strong enough, God knows you are. He allows you to go through specific challenges because He knows that it will prepare you for an even greater blessing.
This morning in my quiet time I was SO encouraged by the word God gave me and my prayer is that as I write this out, each of you would take a hold of this beautiful promise.
“In their hearts humans plan their course but the Lord [establishes] their steps.” –Proverbs 16:9
The word “establish” means determines, prepares, provides, sets in place, directs, firmly decides, makes secure. I think a lot of times in life we fail to trust God with every detail. Psalm 37:23 says that “The Lord directs the steps of the Godly; He delights in every detail of their lives.” Every DETAIL, every challenge, every obstacle that YOU face, God delights in! What HOPE is in this beautiful promise! There is a peace in knowing that God has absolutely everything under control and that my future is secure. When we face a specific challenge or temptation, the pressure of failing or not making the right decision can be so overwhelming. It can make you want to give up on God’s absolute best plan for your life because it’s too hard. We fill our lives with worry and forget the promises of God. For many of you, just like myself, God has spoken a vision and promise over you and established a path that is absolutely secure. Your heart can see it, you hold onto it, and you rest in it BUT God hasn’t completely set it into full motion yet. He hasn’t released you into your destiny and your still in the preparation and “waiting” season. You try with all of your heart to hold onto the promise but daily you battle doubt and temptation and fear that God has forgotten you because you don’t understand “why” you have to face the obstacles that are before you. Be encouraged that the doubt, temptation, and fear you face are all apart of the “details” God cares so deeply about. Mark Batterson says in his book ‘Draw the Circle’ that “God wants us to get where God wants us to go more than we want to get where God wants us to go.” There is purpose in every season that God takes you through, no matter how challenging it is. God sees you and the mustard seed steps of faith you struggle to make everyday. He sees your heart and delights in it. God smiles when you act in obedience, even if it is seemingly small. God can take your tiniest steps of faith and smallest acts of obedience and turn them into GIANT leaps forward. All you have to do is remember that the way before you is “secure.” REST in that.
Often times I wonder “why” God spoke a promise to me when He did, only to make me wait and travel through one of the hardest seasons of my life, one of great fear and doubt but also one of tremendous growth. I know I will never fully understand the ways of God but over this past month I have began to understand parts of the “why.” God can see the bigger picture and He cares so much about the details that He knew I would need the HOPE of the promise for the journey ahead. Even though I couldn’t understand then, I begin to understand now. His timing was so perfect and to look back at what He saved me from, reveals His promise that my path is established and secure.
Maybe God has spoken something to you that has yet to be fulfilled? Maybe your holding on with the only faith you have left. Trust and know that God gave it to you for purpose; not to make you doubt or feel that He has forgotten you but to give you a HOPE of what is to come. You may not understand “why” now but you will. Hold on. Don’t let go. God is right there with you. He sees you. He cares so deeply about you and His plan for your life will come to pass.
