“So at last the king gave orders for Daniel to be arrested and thrown into the den of lions. The king said to him, ‘May your God, whom you serve so faithfully, rescue you.'” Daniel 6:16
Do you ever have those days and nights where you’re crying out to God in prayer only to hear nothing? Do you desire for your prayers to move mountains but get frustrated when, within your own time, mountains aren’t moving? When we step out in faith and pray BOLD prayers, we may not know the impact our prayers are making until we make it through our own lion’s den.
Facing Your Lion
I love reading about the life of Daniel. Daniel was known as a man of prayer and wisdom, and was promoted in ways that could only be explained by the power of God. Daniel’s love and faithfulness for Christ was so strong that people could feel, and even see, the power of God. He had incredible amounts of favor over his life, but that favor cost him a night in the den of lions. Can you imagine the emotion and fear that rose up in Daniel as he stood face to face with a lion?? I’m sure as he was thrown into the pit there was a moment where he was confused. There must have been a few minutes where he wondered, “Does God really have my back or is He even hearing my prayers?!”
Here is where the beauty lies. What Daniel couldn’t see was what God was doing behind the scenes. While he continued to pray, the ungodly king who threw Daniel to the lions missed his presence and the power that came from Daniel’s prayer life so much so that he prayed and fasted on Daniel’s behalf. The very next morning, the king went to check on Daniel and found him still alive! This was a turning point in the king’s life. In that very moment, the faith of the king was born and he proclaimed that everyone should worship Daniel’s God because he had personally witnessed the power of angels shutting the mouths of lions.
Through the fear, pressure, and uncertainty of a long, anxious night in the lion’s den, Daniel’s life was used to display God’s miraculous glory so that another (the king) might experience the saving grace and powerful love of our God. Our walk and the things we do for Christ is NEVER about us but is always about what God does in and through us that can make His name greater.
Daniel’s faithful endurance and persistent prayers brought an ungodly, heathen king to his knees. Daniel could only “see” the pressure of the lion that stood before him. What he couldn’t see was that on the other side of the lion’s den was something SO much greater. Because of his faithfulness, his own life would be filled with far more favor and the life of a king would experience the love and salvation of Jesus Christ.
I want to be known as a woman of prayer and faith even in the midst of circumstances where I question God’s goodness. I want to LOVE like Jesus did. I never want to forget about the lives that surround me that need to hear about His amazing love. I want to have the faith of Daniel and step into the power of prayer that shakes and changes nations. These thoughts encourage me to keep praying and pressing forward even when I don’t understand exactly what God is doing.
Are you willing to walk through uncertainty and remain faithful and consistent in your prayers so that God can trust you with the pressure of a lion’s den? Are you willing to step into the unknown so others might be saved? I encourage you! Walk though the lion’s dens in your life so that your deliverance can only be explained by His great power! Not only will you be delivered but so will those around you.
