“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge cloud of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race which God has set before us.” – Hebrews 12:1
There is one route I absolutely LOVE to take on my run each time I get the opportunity. It runs all throughout my neighborhood. It’s full of trees and a beautiful park where I can grab a quick drink of water after a couple of miles. There is something so special about this park though and something that has pulled on my heart for the past couple of weeks. Every time I pass this park there is a dad running with his 3 kids. The scene is so beautiful I wish you could see this father right now. It brings tears to my eyes each time. This dad never leaves their side and is constantly pushing and encouraging all three of his kids to not give up while speaking “You can do it!!” into their ears!! One thing I noticed was that with each word of encouragement spoken by their father they gain a little more strength and a little more endurance with each stride. Their pace picks up and and they believe in themselves a little more. Giving up is not an option. If they are getting tired and slowing down their dad gets behind them and doesn’t let them stop. He is not only ahead of them calling their name but he is behind them pushing them forward. There is passion in his voice. There is drive. You can tell through the father’s eyes that he would give absolutely everything and do anything for his kids to succeed. There were points during their run that the kids looked absolutely exhausted as their breathing labored and their legs started to drag BUT with one word from their father, everything changed within them. He was not going to let them give up.
He is standing in the midst of your trial, your struggle, and your pain cheering you on saying, “You my child can make it! Hold on just a little bit longer. I’m right here by your side. I’m not going to leave you. I will hold you up. You can do this. Trust me. REST in me.” The Father is before you calling your name. He is behind you pushing you forward and when you fall behind, He is your rear guard. When you get tired, He is your strength, upholding you with His hand. He is a Father who loves YOU unconditionally. YOU are His passion and the one He gave everything for. He wants the BEST for you. When the struggle gets hard and overwhelming and you feel alone He is there, ready for you, calling out your name. He is passionately pursing your heart and in your darkest hour, He is standing before you beckoning you to come. Stay the course. Don’t give up but lean into the strength of the Father when you get tired and weary. Trust that He knows what lies ahead and will lead you down the best pathway for your life. Run with purpose in every step you take, knowing He is right there next to you, before you, and behind you cheering you on.
